Description:

A must-see for Satie lovers! A fresh take on Satie by Armenian-French pianist François Mardirossian, born in 1989, is now available. Titled "Satie and the Gymnopedists," it is an interesting collection of Satie's works as well as those of his spiritual children. The Gnossienne is a whopping eight pieces in all. The first six are known, the seventh is from Act I of "Sons of the Stars," and the eighth is a renamed "Little Overture for Dances" discovered by a British Satie scholar. Disc 2 is also a series of valuable works. Disc 2 is also a series of valuable works, including some lesser-known composers, but all of them are beautiful and Satie's influence can be felt. Happy Sativa Sally" by Farge was improvised for Mardirossian's birthday in 2022 and was so well received that it was notated at his request. Sebastian Gandera's "Recollections" and "One Night with Cioran," dedicated to Mardirossian, also offer a beautiful world perfect for a rainy Monday or a dark Sunday. Of note is a composition by Belgian surrealist painter Edouard Leon Théodore Mezens (1903-1971). He met Satie at the age of 15 and they hit it off, introducing each other's connections. It is intriguing to see his musical talent. John Cage, a great American composer, was a great admirer of Satie throughout his life, and his forgery, which he mischievously slipped into a Jim Tenney concert, is also a brilliant example of his brilliance. He excuses this as being due to his love for Satie. Also valuable are the compositions of Ricardo Vignes, a master musician who worked to popularize the works of Ravel and Falla. It is truly Satie-like. Mardirossian plays most of Satie's works on a 1900 Brüttner and "Je t'Vu" on a 1923 Pleyel upright piano, and on Disc 2 he plays on a 1900 Steinway A and a 1931 Baldwin D. He also plays on a 1931 Baldwin D. The sound world as Satie herself would have heard it is reproduced. King International
