Volume 179 of the series is a collection of orchestral works conducted by Pierre Montoux. Montoux's musical career began with piano lessons from his mother. At the age of six he began violin lessons at the Paris Conservatory, and by fourteen he was playing in an orchestra. 17 years old he became a viola player and joined the Orchestre de la Colonne, where he later became a conductor. Specializing in French repertoire, Montoux went on to conduct the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
