GIRLS IN HAWAII is an indie pop band formed around ANTOINE WIELEMANS and LIONEL VAN CAUWENBERGHE, both from Brennelarou, Belgium. Since their debut with the 2003 album *FROM HERETOTHERE*, they have presented a unique sound that blends a lo-fi guitar sound—directly influenced by PAVEMENT and GRANDADDY—with crackling electronics. Following the tragic death of drummer DENIS WIELEMANS in a car accident in 2010, their 2013 album *EVEREST* and 2017 album *NOCTURNE* capture the pain of loss and the process of rebirth through raw, unflinching soundscapes. Released in 2026, nearly nine years after their previous album, this work was created around the themes of a return to their roots in ’90s indie pop and the rediscovery of the band’s collective energy. The ensemble, crafted in a recording environment that exudes the warmth of handmade artistry, lends an intimate atmosphere to the entire work. Maintaining an exquisite balance between pop’s clarity and elegant melancholy, the album captures the pure joy of creation. Featuring 11 tracks where warm, tactile indie pop comes to life—blending acoustic elements—such as “ISITHAPPENINGRIGHTNOW?,” where a dynamic beat drives a soft melody, and “ELDORADO,” where a delicate melody floats, enveloped by pop-infused synthesizers. The raw emotional fluctuations inherent in each individual track coalesce into a single, powerful surge throughout the album, deeply moving the listener’s heart. Breaking their long silence, this album overflows with the pure joy of creation they have rediscovered, evident in every note.
