The Diotima String Quartet has garnered attention for its edgy activities. The quartet has gathered works by Gervasoni, Peson, and Poppe, three composers who also live today and are at the forefront of their field. Each of these composers has brilliantly developed a new style of writing within the framework of the string quartet. Gervasoni's work explores the effects of fervor and silence, while Pesson writes a piece that quotes Brahms in his work (played by Moragues on clarinet) but drifts between silence and sound. And Poppe's work is filled with humor while keeping in mind the eternally transforming cell. The Diotima String Quartet was formed in 1996 by graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. They worked closely with Boulez and Lachenmann, among others. The quartet has commissioned new works from Thomas Adès, Toshio Hosokawa, Tristan Murail, and many contemporary composers. While focusing on contemporary works, he is also active in Beethoven, Schubert, and the Second Viennese Music School.His activities include organizing the Diotima Academy with young composers and string quartets.
