De la Terre et du Ciel (From Earth and Heaven) offers an unprecedented vocal journey through French choral music of the 20th and 21st centuries, all a capella. The program features a collection of rare, well-known, and previously unpublished works. The first part is secular and emotional, singing of nature, the seasons, melancholy, and the material world. From Charles d'Orléans to Rabindranath Tagore, and through poets such as Jean-Dominique Humbert, Florence Delay, and Robert Mallet, they speak of life, love, seasons, and the passing of time.Each composer (Graciane Finzi, Claude Debussy, Thierry Machuelle, etc.) offers his or her loving, seductive, blooming, rhythmic, or melancholic musical interpretation, leading to the ultimate question. "Is it your farewell or your return?" The second part is full of religious inspiration, inviting us to walk the path of Passion, Death, and Resurrection with the Virgin in Dmitry Chesnokov's "Ave Maria." The path to the cross in Jacques Berthier's "Mater dolorosa", the longing for light in Isabelle Chauvalon's "Jerusalem", and then Christopher Guibert's rapturous double chorus "Exsultet" (Easter hymn).
