Based in Lyon, southern France, the current French avant-garde and experimental rock scene has continued to share its experimental and radical sounds—unbound by conventional frameworks—with the world. Led by two brilliant musicians—Antoine Arnera (keyboards) and Guilhem Meier (drums), both active members of the trio POIL, a central force in that scene—the music collective LEGRANDSBAM presents following their previous studio albums *VAISSEAUMONDE* and *FURVENT* is finally here!! LEGRANDSBAM, known for drastically changing its lineup and musical style for each performance or project, takes on a new challenge this time: the opera *Janus*, themed around “rebuilding the connection between humanity and the natural world.” The libretto was co-written by Antoine Arnera and Thomas Arnera, with Antoine handling the composition. In addition to Antoine and Guilhem, the ensemble features Boris Cassone (g), also a member of POIL; Benoit Lecomte (electronics) from NI/POILUEDA; Jessica Martin Maresco (vo), who participated in the previous two works; nine vocalists; and a large ensemble of 24 musicians, including a horn and string sections—a total of 24 musicians—this innovative and multi-layered soundscape, which blends hardcore with contemporary music, classical, and electronica while adding a tribal flavor, packs an immense impact! The meticulously crafted rhythmic structure—combining odd time signatures, polyrhythms, and counterpoint—the chorus creating an otherworldly atmosphere, and the instrumentally explosive ensemble blend together masterfully, resulting in a cutting-edge masterpiece that truly represents the evolution of POIL!!
