Morocco's Hidden Treasure! The work of the Tarab psychedelic electro-funk pioneer, rescued from the trash, is finally available on physical media. Abdou El Omari was born in 1945 in Tafraout, south of Agadir, Morocco. He grew up in the mountains, surrounded by the rhythms of nature and Berber culture. During Morocco's dramatic transformation in the 1970s, Abdou El Omari forged his unique sound. It was a visionary blend fusing spiritual jazz, psychedelic funk, Moroccan tradition, and the experimental nature of early electronic music. Today, his work is resurfacing, rediscovered by a new generation of listeners. This record stands as one of the rarest and most precious fragments of that era. At age 22, he released records and cassettes on his own label and appeared on RTM (Moroccan National Radio/Television). He also provided compositions for renowned artists like Naima Samih, Laila Ghofran, and Aicha El Waad. In 1976, he released his sole album, Nuits d'été. This work would gain cult status decades later and be reissued in 2017. By the 1980s, his musical activities gradually diminished, and he ultimately returned to work as a barber. Having passed away in 2010, he never witnessed the future where his music would be rediscovered online by diggers, bloggers, and collectors. One day, a close friend discovered a forgotten cassette in the trash. Here, El Oumari displays unprecedented boldness, freely exploring a seamless fusion of pop, cosmic disco, electric blues, and Moroccan tradition. Armed with an ARP Odyssey, he builds hypnotic grooves layered with Farfisa textures, unfolding both his roots and freer explorations.
