Orlando Consort Guillaume de Machaut, Volume 7! The Orlando Consort is a male vocal quartet formed in 1988 at the National Center for Early Music in the UK. With Donald Craig—a renowned baritone who was once a member of the group and currently performs with the Tallis Scholars—anchoring the bass section, the ensemble has earned a global reputation as a leading interpreter of Renaissance and medieval polyphonic music. Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300–1377) remains the central focus of the Orlando Consort’s current concert and recording projects. In this seventh release, titled *The Single Rose*, the ensemble sings love poems centered on the rose—a symbol of love and romance. Please enjoy Machaut’s poetic and polyphonic chansons—representative of the 14th-century French musical style “Ars Nova”—performed by the Orlando Consort’s exquisite and eloquent a cappella ensemble.
