Geminiani, Francesco (1687-1762)
Description:
Geminiani by the concertmaster and members of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra! Geminiani is the well-known concertmaster of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Gottfried von der Goltz, and the members of the orchestra. Geminiani was himself a virtuoso violinist. The "Theory of Violin Technique" contains 28 exercises and 12 pieces of Geminiani's own compositions, which reflect his technique of ornamentation, mesa-divorce (a long drawn-out crescendo of a certain note followed by a decrescendo), etc. Geminiani's technique is reflected in each piece. All of the pieces are enjoyable and varied, including some in the style of dances and others reminiscent of operatic arias.Sonata No. 8, played on this disc from the 12 sonatas of op. 4, was written in the Italian style, while Sonata No. 6 was written in the French style, two contrasting pieces. The taste of Goltz and his members shines through. King International
