La Petite Bande’s Latest Bach Project The second installment of a collection of harpsichord concertos featuring surviving original versions! The second installment in the Bach harpsichord concerto series by Sigiswald Kuijken, a leading figure in the early music world. This series combines six “Harpsichord Concertos” and three “Concertos for Two Harpsichords” with two “Violin Concertos” and one “Concerto for Two Violins,” to be released as a three-volume set. While many of Bach’s harpsichord concertos are believed to be arrangements of his own earlier works—and attempts to reconstruct the lost original versions have become widespread—the violin concertos featured here are based on surviving original scores. This series can be described as one that is strictly committed to performing exactly what Bach wrote. The solo parts are performed by Belgian harpsichordist Mario Serraccia and Taiwanese harpsichordist Hsiu-Tzu Ryan. For the violin concertos, Sigiswald Kuijken himself serves as the soloist. In keeping with La Petite Bande’s signature approach, the orchestra is also performed with a single musician per part. They support this configuration—which is highly likely to have been practiced in Bach’s time—with a compelling sound. ACCENT
