Kochanovsky to be Principal Conductor of the North German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2024/25 Season Kochanovsky's romantic songs and sparkling rhythms Born in 1981 in St. Petersburg, Russia, Kochanovsky studied orchestral conducting and opera at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He has been involved in more than 60 opera and ballet productions, and has attracted international attention by making his debut with the world's most prestigious orchestras, featuring rarely performed works by Ligeti, Myaskovsky, Weinberg, and others. He will make his debut with the North German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022, and will join the orchestra as Chief Conductor in 2024/25. His memorable first CD with the North German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra features a program of composers closely associated with his hometown of St. Petersburg. These are works by R=Korsakov, who was a professor at the Petersburg Conservatory, and his pupil Cherepnin, and Tchaikovsky, who is buried in St. Petersburg. The Distant Queen" was first performed in Paris in 1895, and a Russian translation of the play was performed in St. Petersburg the following year. Cherepnin composed the introductory prelude, the score of which was published in 1899. The story of "The Distant Queen" is as follows: "On the enchanted shores of Provence, from the East came word of the Pearl of Byzantium, how beautiful the Princess Melisindo was, and how she had been given the title of "The Pearl of Byzantium. A young bard, Prince Jeffrois, heard of the princess's beauty and used her as inspiration for his songs.From afar the princess loved again a man she had never seen before, who sang her name. The prince sets out to meet her, but the road is hard and he finds her, only to die at her feet. The dreamy and beautiful melody of this extremely romantic song will transport you to another world at once. Both "Spanish Fantasy" and "The Queen Far Away" are impressive works featuring the violin, and concertmaster Sara Kristian's brilliant tone shines through. Tchaikovsky's suites (orchestral suites) are rarely performed, but Kochanovsky, who excels in both ballet and opera, conducts each charming melody with loving attention to detail. In this recording, Kochanovsky shows off his romanticism and outstanding sense of style.
