Colorful and vibrant rhythms! Hymeno & Toronto Symphony Orchestra Vol. 2 Recording of Stravinsky's Pulcinella in its entirety! The second recording by Jimeno and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The program includes the complete version of Stravinsky's "Pulcinella", "The Fairy's Kiss", and the world premiere recording of the Canadian composer's tribute to Glenn Gould, "Curiosity, Genius, and the Search for Petula Clark". The first release by Jimeno & Toronto Symphony Orchestra was "Turangalila Symphony" (HMM905336), celebrating the 100th anniversary of the orchestra's founding (established in 1922), which was a big hit in terms of performance (piano by Amran) and sound quality. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra's 101st anniversary is positioned as a new start, and Hymeno will once again present a colorful program. Stravinsky's "Pulcinella" is sometimes performed as a suite with only instrumental music, but the appearance of a new recording of the complete ballet with voices is a rare treat. Not only is it valuable, but it is also a reminder of the connection between the orchestra and Stravinsky, as Stravinsky led the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a performance of this work in 1956, which was said to be the last time he conducted in public. In "Pulcinella," Stravinsky, drawing on the Italian Baroque music of Pergolesi, Monza, and others, has written, through Stravinsky's lens, a suite in a new musical language, full of the seemingly very simple, yet very elaborate orchestral writing and rhythms characteristic of the Classical period. The compositions were writtenThe ballet "The Fairy's Kiss" pays homage to Tchaikovsky's music while depicting Andersen's story. The work by Canadian composer Murphy is a single movement piece commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Glenn Gould's birth. It is a world premiere recording. Gould was greatly influenced by the songs of British singer and actress Petula Clark, and spoke of Clark with as much passion as he spoke of Bach. Curiosity, Genius, and the Search for Petula Clark" has an atmosphere similar to "Pulcinella" and "The Kiss" in its frequent changes of scenery, character, and rhythmic quality. The members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, who also specialize in modern and contemporary music, show great skill, and the bouncy rhythms of the percussionist Hymeno are an attractive addition to the album.
