The recording shows a full treatment of instrumental music, a wonderful mastery of counterpoint, and a genius for softly expanding and musicalizing the textual content. Handel left his native Halle for Hamburg in 1703 at the age of 18. After Hamburg, he went to Italy and worked in the area around Rome from the end of 1706 or early 1707 until 1710.The three works included here are the result of a commission for a series of services for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16, 1707, a religious work with a Latin text. With Justin Doyle, who has been the artistic director and principal conductor of the RIAS Chamber Choir since 2017, and the instrumentalists of the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music, the result is a masterful performance full of Handel's charms. The instrumental music of the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music was also brilliant and full of Handel's charms. (King International)
