The world premiere recording of the Turangalila Symphony, a sensual dialogue between perfect rhythms, gorgeous harmonies piano and Martono, is the latest and definitive masterpiece of 2023 by the new Toronto Symphony Orchestra Music Directors Jimeno x Amlan x Nathalie Forget! The Turangalila Symphony. It is Messiaen's first large-scale orchestral work and one of the greatest masterpieces in music history, brilliant in its composition, which features the French-born electronic instrument Ondes Martenots, as well as keyboard instruments such as piano and celesta, and its grand scale. Here comes another remarkable new recording! The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, which made the world premiere recording of this work in 1967 under the direction of Seiji Ozawa and in the presence of Messiaen, will perform the work as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the orchestra, which was founded in 1922. Newly appointed Music Director Jimeno (who will become Music Director beginning with the 2020/21 season. This is also his first collaboration with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. On piano is Marc-André Amrand, one of Canada's leading pianists. Martono is Nathalie Forget, a Messiaen scholar who has worked with various conductors, including Zender and Cambourin, and who since 2016 has also been a professor of Martono at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. The Turangalila Symphony is based on the legend of Tristan and Isolde, but is ultimately a "love song" and a "hymn to joy. The dynamics, colors, and emotional richness of this work are all in the service of love. The dynamics, color, and emotional richness of the music are unparalleled. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, led by Gimeno, brings all its energy to the challenge, and the bewitching charm of Nathalie Forget's Martenot, who has performed this work many times, and the brilliant tone of Amran, who has also performed this work many times, all come together to bring this Messiaen's great masterpiece to life in a spectacular performance.
