Come to think of it, there are probably few pianists who are as well suited to Satie's music as Tharaud. Tharaud, with his outstanding sense of style, is able to portray the ever-changing nuances and stylishness of the music with a prismatic ease. The unique tone of the "magician of the fingertips" Tharaud's playing is thrilling. The duo with Le Sage could not have been more perfect in breath, tone, and sense.I couldn't help but take my hat off to a really good Frenchman playing French music. Juliette is a chanson singer whom Tharaud praises as "the ideal Satie singer," and she sings with a great atmosphere reminiscent of an old Parisian café. Isabelle Faust's versatile performance also makes this collection of Satie's works a delight to listen to. The illustration on the cover is a portrait of Satie by Jean-Cocteau, and the order of the songs differs from the CD (HMC 902017).
