The popular French pianist Alexandre Tharaud's masterpiece Rameau is back, recorded in 2001, and became the first full-fledged solo album by Tharaud for harmoniamundi. The release of "Rameau with Contemporary Piano" by a label that had been focusing on French Baroque music since the 1980s, when there had been many Baroque harpsichord recordings, was also a big topic of conversation. At the time of the release of this disc, Rattle's performance of Rameau's "Les Boreades" on modern instruments and Minkowski's performance of Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande" on period instruments were both sensational events. Taraud's Rameau was released to worldwide acclaim, with the pianist saying, "No other pianist has reproduced the spirit of this composer in such a fascinating way.
