The latest Frank Lugansky disc is a collection of Franck's works, which is a masterpiece of Lugansky's, imbued with reason and depth. It may come as a surprise, but Frank Lugansky has recorded and performed violin sonatas with Lepine and Knyazev (cello version) and has been highly acclaimed for his brilliance. His moving performance of "Preludes, Fugues and Variations," which he performed during a tour of Japan in 2015, has become a legend. He has long dreamed of recording a collection of Franck's works, and now it has finally come to fruition. Speaking of Lugansky, he has been giving convincing performances with unparalleled precision and meticulously calculated designs. In this respect, Franck is a perfect match for Lugansky. He recreates the horrendous technical difficulty of the compositions, which are not at all external, and the logical compositions, where not a single note can be left out, are reproduced as if unraveling science. The piano arrangements of the two moving organ pieces are also included. The quiet, poignant melancholy of the "Prelude, Fugue and Variations" and the stately "Chorale No. 2," Lugansky's own arrangement, are superb. It is noteworthy that Lugansky's usual roaring, brilliant piano tone is suppressed to produce an organ-like sound.This is Frank's last piece, and the fact that it is placed at the end also shows Lugansky's deep understanding and commitment.
