Description:
With Eschenbach, Prokofiev’s Crystal-Clear Cello World in His Final Years Prokofiev’s late cello works were created in collaboration with Rostropovich, who gave their world premieres. Reflecting Rostropovich’s unparalleled technique and rich expressiveness, these masterpieces have become a valuable part of today’s repertoire. The star of this album, Bruno Philipp, was born in 1993. A promising young artist, he won third prize and the Best Recital Award at the 2011 André Navarra International Competition, as well as third prize and the Audience Award at the 2014 Munich International Music Competition. In addition to his technique and musicality, his youthful sensibility is a major draw. The Symphonic Concerto and the Sonata are known for the fact that, at their premieres, Richter supported the former as conductor and the latter as pianist. It is a real treat and adds to the appeal that the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, performs alongside him here. However, for the Sonata, he is not playing the piano himself; instead, he is joined by pianist Dominique de Villiancourt, born in 1990. After studying at the Paris Conservatory under Roger Muraro, Claire Dessay, and Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, she honed her skills under Jacques Rouvier and Anne Queffélec, among others. These two young artists, both born in the 1990s, present a spirited interpretation of Prokofiev. King International
