All works related to his master Richter. Melnikov's second superb Prokofiev album. This is Melnikov's second collection of Prokofiev's sonatas, following the first one (HMC902202; domestic edition KKC-5694), which won a special prize from Record Geijutsu magazine. This time, the second release includes Prokofiev's masterpiece Sonata No. 7, which is one of the most representative piano pieces by Prokofiev. Composed in 1939-44, it was written during World War II in an evacuation zone, and Melnikov's grandparents, the composers Nikolai Chamberge and Zahra Levina, were present at its birth. In addition, Prokofiev's teacher, Svyatoslav Richter, gave the world premiere in January 1943 at the request of Melnikov's grandparents, Nikolai Chamberge and Zahra Levina. The 27-year-old Richter mastered this difficult piece in four days, and the premiere was a great success. Melnikov's first performance of No. 9, which was dedicated to Richter and given its world premiere, was also a favorite of Richter's. Melnikov's interpretation of No. 4 is a true masterpiece. While many performances of No. 7 are full of sharp technique and energy, Melnikov's introspective interpretation with a calm tempo gave the impression of listening to a completely new work.
