The German Requiem by Harding is soft and solemn, and the virtuous soloists are joined by Kalk and Guerne! Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, who also recorded the Mahler Zycles No. 9 (KKC 5883/ HMM 902258) and No. 5 (KKC 5986/ HMM 902366), have recorded the German Requiem. The soloist is Christiane Kalk, a regular at the Salzburg Festival who has performed with Arnoncourt, Thielemann, Jansons, Harding, and others in many important concerts. The baritone is Matthias Goerne, whose soft but deep voice has been enchanting the world in lieder and opera. The performance was soft, solemn, virtuous, and extremely restrained.
