Debussy (1862-1918)

Description:

Piano prodigy Roger Mourlot Debussy's Exercises! The world premiere recording of Messiaen's secret piece "The Insectivores in Hérault," which was performed for the 100th anniversary of Debussy's birth at Toppan Hall in Tokyo on June 23, 2017. The performance of this work, which was kept in an unfinished state in the "Messiaen Archive" established in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and meticulously reconstructed by Muraro, a Messiaen professional who studied under Yvonne Loriot, attracted a great deal of attention. This "Hérault" was originally a work that Messiaen had worked on for the 100th anniversary of Debussy's birth (1961). Mourlot has now released it in its entirety to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death! In addition, the coupling, Debussy's 12 Difficult Exercises (all pieces), is a work that Debussy dedicated to Chopin. In 1961, the year after the 100th anniversary of Debussy's birth, Messiaen was asked to write a memorial work for Debussy. At that time, Messiaen had just conceived of a concerto for "On the Birds of Hérault," which was to be a work commemorating the 100th anniversary of Debussy's birth. (Incidentally, Yvonne Loriot was also the first French woman pianist to perform Debussy's 12 exercises in her repertoire.) The work (unfinished) was to be dedicated to Yvonne Loriot, but Messiaen also paid tribute to Debussy in his dedication: "To Debussy, a lover of nature...". This unfinished concerto will be performed as a solo piano work titled "Insectivores on the Hérault - Concerto for the Mediterranean Coast" (insectivores are birds that live along the Mediterranean coast). The colorful colors, the wonderful sound depiction of the birds' singing, and the world that reminds us of nature, are all signs of the respect that Messiaen had for Debussy. Furthermore, Debussy dedicated the Exercises to Chopin.Anyway, Muraro's easy and superb technique is brilliant, and this is a remarkable disc! King International
