A collection of Bach’s dialogue cantatas performed by two leading singers Accompanied by the Berlin Academy of Early Music! A collection of dialogue cantatas. In these cantatas, the soprano embodies the soul and the bass embodies Jesus, depicting the exchange between the soul and Jesus’ heart. Soprano Kartheuser, a native of Belgium, has made a name for herself as one of the finest Mozart interpreters of our time; she is also active in a wide range of genres, from Baroque opera to art songs, captivating audiences worldwide with her pure, direct voice. Kalthoizer’s singing naturally evokes empathy in the listener, and her authentic expressions in both moments of anguish and joy are particularly captivating. The bass, Michael Volle, is from Germany; in addition to his work in Mozart, he is a versatile artist in high demand for operas by Tchaikovsky and Verdi. The first movement of No. 49 is a sinfonia, adapted from the third movement of the Harpsichord Concerto in G major (BWV 1053). The organ takes the solo part, creating a truly joyful atmosphere. Alperman, who conducts and plays the organ on this recording, has been performing since the founding of the Berlin Academy of Early Music in 1982. In addition to collaborating with the Berlin Philharmonic under Abbado on Bach’s concertos, he has established himself as a first-rate keyboardist and, in recent years, as a conductor.
