Monteverdi's late works that are almost operatic. Les Arts Florissants' third Monteverdi concert! Paul Agnew is the co-conductor of the orchestra with William Christie, the founder of Les Arts Florissants. The project to release three albums of excerpts from live recordings of the complete Monteverdi Madrigale concerts he has conducted is now complete. Following "Mantova" (recorded in Volumes 4-6, AF-003) and "Cremona" (Volumes 1-3, AF-005), the current release, "Venice" contains music from the remaining Volumes 7 and 8. Monteverdi, who opened the door to the Baroque era with his innovative writing style, left behind a total of eight volumes of madrigales, and the transition of his style can be directly described as a journey from the Renaissance to the Baroque. In the later works included here, in addition to the effective use of instrumental music, the soloists sing together to develop a scene, creating a sound world that resembles a scene from an opera.The impressive list of pieces that will capture your heart at first hearing includes "O Blonde Hair, Beautiful Treasure" with its catchy recorder and violin runs and joyful duets, "The Lament of the Nymphs," a masterpiece with its sequential descending lamento bass, and "Tancredi and Clorinda's Battle," which is truly an opera, The genius of Monteverdi strikes you.
