Description:
The first project by Bertrand Cuyet, a thoroughbred of the ancient music world, to record the complete works of F. Coupland's Clavusan cycle! This is the first volume of Bertrand Cuiller's project to record the complete works of F. Coupland's Clavecin. In this first volume, the pieces have been selected and recorded in a spirit of freedom in tone, parody, etc., and evocative of the theater. Some of these are directly implied in the titles, etc., while others are hidden. This first two-disc set begins in the key of C (a favorite of Couperin's) and ends with a work in B minor (a key with deep meaning, such as death), making one feel as if one were watching a play. Cuiller also said that F. Coupland always had a "Coupland-ness" in all his works, which he likened to an alchemist, a craftsman who transforms the same material in various ways, hence the title. Bertrand Cuyet was born in 1978 in Nantes to a musical family. He studied harpsichord with Christophe Rousset at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and later with Pierre Antaï.He has played, recorded, and toured with various ensembles, including Les Bas Reunis and La Revueuse led by Bruno Cossé, as well as with Les Arts Florissants, Conseil Spirituelle, and Stradivarius. He is a thoroughbred bassist, ensemble and soloist. He has released numerous ensemble and solo CDs on labels such as Alpha, Naive, and MIRARE; in 2014, MIRARE released his complete Rameau harpsichord works (MIR266). King International, Inc.
