It features Eiji Oue conducting the Minnesota Orchestra in Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances,” “Vocalises,” and “Etudes-tableaux”—albums widely regarded as masterpieces from this label. ■ The Reference Master Cuts Series Reference Recordings had been searching for a pressing plant for many years in order to return to the analog market, and having finally found a facility that met their high-quality standards, they have now made their long-awaited return. They employ the half-speed mastering method, in which mastering and cutting are performed at half the normal speed. Slowing down the process prevents sound quality degradation and results in improved high-frequency response and better stereo balance. The cutting system utilizes a custom-built machine developed in collaboration with legendary audio designer Nelson Pass, Reference Recordings’ renowned engineer Dr. Keith O. Johnson, and Paul Stablebine, who has served as the label’s mastering engineer for many years. To accurately reproduce these meticulous specifications, the pressing plant selected was “Quality Record Pressing (Q.R.P.)” in Salina, Kansas.
