A new CD, HRX, from Reference Recordings—known for its many outstanding recordings—is being released simultaneously! The titles featured on this release are works by Delibes. Delibes created works that have become quintessential examples of French classical ballet. This album includes “Sylvia” (a story in which Sylvia, a nymph serving the goddess Diana, is seduced by the hunter Orion but ultimately unites with her beloved shepherd, Amant), and “Coppélia” (a comedy arising from the jealousy of Swanilda, who is in love with a young man who has fallen for the automaton Coppélia created by Coppélius)—are masterpieces among them. Conductor Martin West is renowned for his “ballet-style conducting” and served as music director of the English National Ballet for 10 years, beginning in 1997.
