Description:

Award-winning artists perform the sounds of the "Cafe" with their friends and the latest arrangements. Decca Classics is pleased to announce the release of "Violin Cafe," a new album by Grammy Award-winning Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti. Together, it brings together the variety of music that has shaped Nicola's life and career, from popular virtuoso works and French romances to contemporary favorites and Scottish folklore. The latest arrangements have been created for a new set of instruments: violin, guitar, accordion, cello, and small pipes. These original instrumental compositions deliver a sound that is flexible and resonant across genres, cultures, and performance environments, "just right for an evening café. Accordionist Samuele Terrari and guitarist Plinio Fernández's masterful playing bring intelligent and creative arrangements that breathe new life into violin masterpieces and captivating melodies. Thomas Carroll's cello brings an essential resonance and stability to the works. Smallpipe player Breecha Campbell is featured in Scottish Lore and violinist Yume Fujise in Sarasate's "Navarre". The recording includes Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy" and "Navarre" and Wieniawski's "Concert Polonaise," arranged by Stephen Goss; Ponce's "Estrellita" and Maxwell Davies' "Farewell Stromness," arranged by Paul Campbell; Simon Parkin's Bloch's "Prayer" and Debussy's "A Beautiful Evening," "Sicilienne," arranged by Juliette Paquin, and Scottish Lore, arranged by Brecha Campbell. The ensemble composition of violin, guitar, accordion and cello came to me in the middle of the night... This combination of instruments delivers a sound that is intimate, interactive and "cafe friendly"" (Nicola Benedetti). The release coincides with Nicola's first solo tour in over a decade, which will take him to 14 venues across the UK and Ireland. Universal Music/IMS
