Pianist Alice-Sara Ott, of Japanese and German descent, releases a collection reconstructing the iconic music of Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (1969-2018) for solo piano. Based on Jóhannsson's new piano arrangement collection published by Faber Music, this is the world premiere recording. It comprehensively covers Johansson's work, including tracks from his studio albums Englaborn and Orphee, Copenhagen Dreams, Love Crime, and music written for film, such as the Golden Globe Award-winning The Theory of Everything. Ott has captured the essence of these 30 pieces left behind by Johansson. "I never met him personally, but I've always loved his music," Ott says. For this project, he spoke with Johansson's friends and colleagues to deepen his understanding of the works."When I worked on these pieces and internalized the structure, form, and language of Johan's music, I actually felt as if I were having a very personal dialogue with him." Johansson was a composer of immense influence within the contemporary music scene. He developed a unique compositional language that fused elements of classical, minimal, ambient, and electronic music. He remained at the peak of his creative powers until his death at age 48 and continues to enjoy immense popularity today.
