A special album dedicated to the legendary violinist who has long influenced New Star Spanish violinist María Dueñas’s new album, *Homage to Heifetz*, was created as a tribute to the legendary violinist Jascha Heifetz (1901–1987), who has been a major influence on her for many years. Heifetz’s vast recording legacy has been of great importance to her. She performed Lalo’s *Symphonie espagnole* and Korngold’s Violin Concerto with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. There is a palpable artistic chemistry between Duenas and the orchestra. Debussy’s “La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin” is one of the encore pieces that Heifetz was particularly known for. With pianist Itamar Golan, she performs exquisite miniatures by Debussy and Ponce. The combination of accessible arrangements of short pieces and larger-scale works revives the tradition of the violin’s “golden age,” featuring not only Heifetz’s own arrangements but also those by Duenas herself. “Having a ‘role model’ is very important—someone who is always a source of inspiration,” says Duenas. For her, that person was Heifetz. Gustavo Dudamel, himself an outstanding violinist, is also a major source of inspiration for her. “He is truly wonderful, not only as a musician but as a person—someone with both talent and a down-to-earth nature.
