Anne-Sophie Mutter

Description:

Celebrating Her 60th Birthday: A Passionate and Ambitious Work Featuring Mutter Performing with Her Own Ensemble and a Carefully Curated Selection of Pieces This album features Anne-Sophie Mutter and her ensemble, “Mutter’s Virtuosi,” composed of her handpicked musicians. For this new recording, they selected Vivaldi’s Concerto for Three Violins, Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor and Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Previn’s Nonet (2014), Joseph de Boulogne’s Concerto in A major, and, as encores, selections from Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons* and works by John Williams. Mutter performed the Violin Concerto by Joseph de Saint-Georges, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, for the first time at the 2022 Lucerne Festival. This 18th-century composer, also known as the “Black Mozart,” saw his career limited by the racism of his time. This is an important issue that Mutter and the ensemble hope the audience will give serious thought to. The two encore pieces by John Williams were specially arranged for Muter’s Virtuosi, and Previn’s Nonet was commissioned for Muter’s Virtuosi. The third movement, “Summer,” from Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons* serves as a cheerful finale to this demanding program. For many years, Mutter has performed with various scholarship recipients from her foundation, helping them acclimate to life as professional musicians and introducing them to a wide audience. In the spring of 2011, she launched another project, “Mutter’s Virtuosi.” Under Mutter’s artistic leadership, this ensemble consists of current scholarship recipients and alumni of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, as well as other selected young musicians. On tours throughout Europe, North America, South America, and Asia, Muter’s Virtuosi regularly introduce new works to audiences, and each tour program includes a charity concert. Universal Music/IMS
