Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning American composer and pianist Dustin O'Halloran releases long-awaited new album of electronics on Deutsche Grammophon. O'Halloran is one of the international ambient music duo A Winged Victory for the Saloon. The album "1001" explores the intimate relationship between nature, consciousness, and artificial intelligence and our understanding of it. Created to be "listened to with intention," that is, to be experienced as a whole in the same way that one takes time to appreciate a painting or sculpture, this immersive album provides space to slow down and think deeply about the complex philosophical questions that confront our ever-accelerating and evolving world. O'Halloran recorded the album at RRO Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland, with violin by longtime collaborator and fellow composer Brian Senti, a select eight-voice choir, and electronic production by Paul Coley (of "Sigur Ros"), recorded with the Budapest Art Orchestra, orchestrated by Roman Vinuesa. All mixed by longtime partner and sound engineer Francesco Donadello. 1001 is a collaboration between dancer Fukiko Takase and choreographer Wayne McGregor, based on a ballet premiered in 2019, with the album completed during the pandemic. Fukiko Takase is an internationally acclaimed contemporary dancer who has been described by the UK's Evening Standard as "a dancer's diabolo".
