An Icelandic Composer Enchants with Poetry: A Debut Album of Beauty and Nostalgia Icelandic composer, conductor, and producer Viktor Óli Árnason releases his captivating debut album, *Poems*, on Deutsche Grammophon. Icelandic poetry from the past and present weaves its way into music brimming with beauty, nostalgia, and human sensitivity. Árnason composed the poems on this album in collaboration with the up-and-coming soprano Alfreður Alla Gudmundsdóttir. The 10 tracks on the album feature not only their own poetry but also works by Olof Sigurdardottir fra Hlodum (1857–1933), Hulda (Unnur Benediktsdottir Bjarklind) (1881–1946), Gudfinna Jonsdottir fra Homrum (1899–1946), Sigurdur Palsson (1948–2017), and Arndis Loa Magnusdottir (b. 1994). Viktor Ólli Árnason studied violin and viola at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, as well as composition and conducting at the Hans Eisler School of Music in Berlin. Thanks to his versatility and wide-ranging musical interests, he has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including Hildur Guðnadóttir, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ólafur Arnalds, Yair Elazar-Grotman, Nils Frahm, and Robot Koch. Recently, as a conductor and artistic director, he has frequently collaborated with the Reykjavík Orchestra, which is based at the Harpa Concert Hall and specializes in ensemble recordings for film, television, and video games.
