The fifth and final installment of the highly acclaimed “Prism” series by this acclaimed quartet The Danish String Quartet’s highly acclaimed “Prism” series finally comes to a close with this fifth installment. It has been an eight-year project. Each album in the series paired a distinctive Bach fugue with a late Beethoven string quartet, or a Beethoven string quartet with a work by a later master, reflecting the ensemble members’ statement that “the light of music is refracted through the prism of Beethoven.” The British newspaper *The Guardian* wrote, “The approach itself leads us spontaneously and wholeheartedly to listen. This group plays with virtuosity, intensity, and affection.” Johann Sebastian Bach’s chorale prelude “I Come Before Your Throne” “began as if a flower were blooming” (liner notes by music critic Paul Griffiths), followed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 16 in F major, followed by Webern’s early quartet, composed in 1905 and inspired by Beethoven and Schoenberg, before returning to Bach with “Contrapunctus 14” from *The Art of Fugue*.
