The third ECM album by a brilliant Hungarian guitarist This is the third recording for the “ECM New Series” by Vienna-based Hungarian guitarist Jófia Boros. The tracks on this album can be divided into two categories: those spotlighting contemporary Argentine compositions, and those featuring a wide range of musical styles by the French composer Matthias Duprecy. The American magazine *Fanfare* has praised Boros for her “clear, beautiful tone, flowing phrasing, supple ornamentation, and a confident sense of mood and emotion.” All of these qualities are particularly evident in Carlos Moscardini’s “El último aliento,” which also serves as the album’s title track. Other Argentine composers—Joaquín Alem, Chique Sinesi, and Alberto Ginastera—have all created vibrant repertoires, and Boros weaves a series of supple, undulating lines while shifting technique, tempo, and atmosphere. In Cinesí’s “Tormenta de ilusión,” he plays the ronroco, a stringed instrument from the Andes region. Boros combines Argentine music with Dupré’s expressive compositions to create a compelling program, in which he highlights his unique talent and his dedicated, wide-ranging influence with a modest and charming demeanor. The recording was produced by Manfred Eicher and took place at the Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano, Switzerland. Universal Music/IMS
