Irmgard Seefried (soprano) (CD 13: 11-13,Except CD 19) Deutsche Grammophon's recital recordings by German-born Viennese lyric soprano Irmgard Seefried (1919-1988) are now available together in a 20-CD box set. The centerpiece of the set is a collection of romantic songs by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and Wolff. Among them are albums by Heine and Schumann, which combine poetry readings with songs. The recitations are being reissued on CD for the first time. The Highlites from the complete recordings of operas and religious music are also included on five CDs. And for the first time, two arias (sung in German) from Mozart's opera "Cosi fan tutte" with Ferdinand Leitner are newly discovered in archival recordings. In addition, there are two albums that are being released on CD for the first time. One is an audio documentary of Seefried talking about himself (CD 20), and the other is a piano part of a famous song performed by Eric Verba, Seefried's longtime recital partner (CD 19), created with the idea of allowing listeners to sing along at home. The other is an audio documentary (CD 20) in which Seefried talks about himself. Critic Alan Blythe wrote: "Irmgard Seefried was an artist revered by those who loved natural singing. Both solemn and joyful emotions were expressed straight from the heart, unadorned and unadorned, in that unique way of delivery that was the artist's greatest gift." This talent shines through in this set of recital albums recorded by Deutsche Grammophon in the 1950s and 1960s, with a repertoire of songs from Bach to Bartók. Blythe also wrote, "If I could only hear one voice in my life, I might choose hers. Original jacket. Newly remastered. The booklet includes a previously unpublished artist card, a new essay by Tally Potter on the art of Seefried, an English translation of the audio documentary, and archival photographs. We were all envious of her," Potter said. We were all envious of her, because what we had struggled to achieve seemed so natural and natural to her. She knew how to sing from the heart."-Elisabet Schwarzkopf (UNIVERSAL MUSIC/IMS)
