Piano Arrangements by Leading Contemporary Composers Stephen Sondheim, the great musical theater composer. As both a lyricist and composer, he has written numerous Broadway musicals and led them to great success. His work has influenced musicians and artists across many different genres, and over the years, countless performers have taken an interest in his compositions, bringing his melodies to life in various ways. This album, titled “Liaisons,” features 36 piano arrangements of Sondheim’s songs, reimagined by leading contemporary composers—led by Steve Reich—and performed by pianist Anthony De Mare. Given the sheer scale of this project—which took four years to record, from November 2010 to November 2014—this three-disc set can truly be described as a culmination of collective wisdom.
