The themes of these carols typically revolve around Christmas, the Virgin Mary, and the saints. The carols included on this album are works in Latin or English composed for sacred worship. Some pieces incorporate dance forms, and it is thought they may have been used during processions. While some of the texts include not only hymns but also historical and political content, the polyphony and sweet harmonies that resonate throughout consistently maintain a sublime beauty. It is no exaggeration to say that their uniquely crystalline music represents the pinnacle of beauty in this genre.
