Zimmermann, a charismatic figure in the piano world, has finally released his long-awaited solo album—his first in 23 years. This album features Schubert’s late sonatas, which were the highlight of his overwhelming performances during his 2015–2016 nationwide recital tour. It was recorded in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, following the conclusion of that tour. As a full solo album, this marks the first release since his 1991 recording (25 years ago) and released in 1994 (his first in 23 years)—this precious recording by “the perfect pianist, Zimmermann,” especially since it was recorded in Japan, is already generating buzz in the classical music world.
