Founded in 1950 and led by H. Stadelmayer for nearly 30 years, this orchestra has consistently captivated audiences with its innovative programming and original concerts. In 1996, the renowned violinist Christoph Poppen took over, but it was Leprich who assumed the position of principal conductor and artistic director beginning with the 2006–07 season. Born in Regensburg in 1968, he served as Eto de Waart’s assistant from 1996 and, the following year, conducted the Amsterdam Concertgebouw as his substitute, receiving rave reviews. Having received artistic guidance from Abbado and Gielen, and actively engaged in remarkable endeavors such as founding and conducting his own choir, he is one of the most talked-about young conductors today. This album marks the Munich Chamber Orchestra’s eighth release on the ECM label. Having previously recorded works by Hartmann, Gubaidulina, Bach/Webern (Ricercare), Mansurian, Gai, Šelci, and Silvestrov, this album features a collection of symphonies by Haydn and Yun Isang titled “Farewell.” By pairing Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony”—one of his most captivating early works—with a symphony by Yun Isang, a piece that holds special meaning for Reipreich since he met the composer and his family during a personal visit to North Korea, doesn’t this showcase the young conductor’s ambition?
