A. Meyer began his professional career around 1990 as principal oboist with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. About two years later, he became principal oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic, and since then has been performing internationally with this world-class orchestra. He has consistently delivered magnificent performances under conductors such as Abbado, Rattle, and Annerose. At the same time, he has made a significant mark as a soloist with the Berlin Baroque Soloists and the Sabine Meyer Wind Ensemble. Meyer was a member of a church choir in Bamberg during his youth, and it is possible that this experience is reflected in his current style. While many of his recordings to date have been released on the EMI label, his repertoire spans a wide range of genres, including Baroque, Classical, modern, German, and French music. His collaborators include such distinguished artists as S. Meyer, Kennedy, Petri, and Gerné. Two new albums have just been released: “Song Without Words—Bach Transcriptions” [featuring Kennedy] and “In Honor of Mozart” [with a notable performance by Abbado and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra]. These recordings truly represent “long-awaited DG recordings”—please give them a listen.
