When White Heaven founder Hiroshi Ishihara's debut solo album "Passivité" was first released in 1997, it seemed to fade away with little attention. What little coverage it received in the Japanese music media was confusing or even negative, and it barely reached an international audience in that era, just before the age of online music. The album was released on the short-lived Japanese Creative Man Disc label, which also produced albums by such Japanese underground masters as Phew, Otomo Yoshihide, Taku Sugimoto, CCCC, and Ground Zero. But even within that eclectic label, Ishihara's albums stood out in a world of their own, outdated at the time and in every other era.
