The Excitements, one of the leading bands of the European funk scene, has released a new album! The Excitements' new album pays homage to vintage soul and funk while Neil Sugarman's production brushes up the contemporary sound even more than before, resulting in a crisp, powerful, soulful sound and groove. Chris Bell's cover is also a marvel! The Excitements are a funk band based in Barcelona, Spain, led by guitarist Adrià Gual, who has released four albums since their debut in 2011. The album was produced by Neil Sugarman, the general manager of the Dap Tone label, which has broken many bands, including Sharon Jones. The opening track, "Hard Times," is a melancholy medium that is exquisitely spiced with casual horns and percussion.From there, a variety of numbers followed, including the piano-driven "Brand New Nothing," the slow "I Gave You All," sung emotionally by new singer Kissia San from the previous album, the high-speed funk of "This Bond is a Curse," and the lighthearted break of "Lost in action," which made the audience bump their heads. Lost in action" and a variety of other numbers followed. A punchy, soulful cover of Chris Bell's (Big Star) signature song "My life is Right" is also numbing! The album pays homage to vintage soul/funk, but with the support of Neil Sugarman, the contemporary sound is brushed up more than ever and leaps to the next level!
