The second release from the trio “Kazeguruma,” featuring Yuji Takahashi, Mutsumi Hatano, and Katsuki Tochio! An album featuring poetry by Jiro Tokisato and music composed by Yuji Takahashi! “About the Poems” by Jiro Tokisato “A Dream in the Storage Room, or A Tangled Dream” was written at the request of Mutsumi Hatano. A cat that makes its home in people’s dreams begins to dwell in the dreams of a man who lost his mother at a young age. Set in the dim light of a storage room still filled with memories of his mother, the story follows the cat and the man as they meet and gradually grow close—a narrative woven with entries from the deceased mother’s diary. I wrote this hoping that listeners would savor the charm of the words through recitation, song, and narration. *Kotokata of the Island of Stammering Birds* is set on “Nai Island,” one of the many islands in the Seto Inland Sea that float like green eggs. It is an island-sanatorium where discarded dolls and androids spend their twilight years. I continue to write works inspired by the language of these beings, who are the closest to humans. It is a collage of various forms of language: nursery rhymes the dolls have memorized, memories of the people who cherished them, and poems by a broken android poet. “On Music” by Yuji Takahashi *Dreams in the Storage Room, or Tangled Dreams* was composed in 2010 as a “shadow anti-opera” for voice, piano, and the Greek bouzouki. In 2016, I reworked the bouzouki part for baritone saxophone. The Orpheus myth, which underlies the entire work, is referenced through a quotation from Monteverdi’s opera *Orfeo*; against the backdrop of a reading from his late mother’s diary, there is a quotation from Melisande’s song in the “Tower Scene” of Debussy’s *Pelléas et Mélisande*; furthermore, corresponding to the subtitle “Tangled Dreams,” the work is interspersed with quotations from Schumann’s *Fantasy Pieces*, Op. 12. Each is a collage of quotations transformed beyond recognition of their original forms. *Kotokata from the Island of Stammering Birds* was composed in 2016 for voice, baritone saxophone, and piano. It is a delicate tapestry in which a voice—floating and drifting, neither speaking nor singing, but merely wavering—and the lines of the instruments intertwine, lacking a central focus or a stable bass line; a collection of fragments of ballads without a story, set on an abandoned island.
