From the very opening, the sound leans back with force. The heavyweight rhythm section, clenching their fists as if to say "this is how blues should be," charges forward with modern sophistication. Sabatino, in turn, delivers a masterful groove with perfect timing, letting the piano ring out resoundingly with a vitality that seems ready to leap right out of the speakers. When the Latin track follows, it's pure Orazio Hernandez dominance. Not to be outdone, John Patitucci exhausts every trick in his bag on his signature 6-string bass, while Sabatino weaves a melody rich in color with his sparkling tone. Highlighted by this track, which feels like a shower of beautiful tones, the entire album showcases formidable technique without a single difficult moment. Even in the melancholic masterpiece "The Old Country," a subtle warmth seeps through, allowing the listener to savor the pure bliss of simply soaking in the sound itself. That's likely why it has remained beloved as a new piano trio masterpiece since its release. Moreover, a crucial sign of a true masterpiece is its reissue.This album was released by Chicago's Hallway label following Sabatino's 1999 performance at the renowned Jazz Showcase club. Before anyone knew it, it became hard to find, leaving fans who missed their chance gnashing their teeth in unison. But truly great works never stay buried. Responding to fans' voices, Sawano Kobo stepped in. This also serves as an endorsement from a trusted "ear." This marks the second birth of a classic album.
