Lorenzo Viotti, the acclaimed young conductor, makes his debut at the Summer Night Concert! The “Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert” is an open-air concert held at Schönbrunn Palace—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and is one of the Vienna Philharmonic’s signature events, alongside the New Year’s Concert. This year marks the Summer Night debut of Lorenzo Viotti, who is generating significant buzz as the incoming General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House and will also assume the role of Music Director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in April 2026. The program, ranging from Suppé’s “Light Cavalry” to the Second Suite from “Daphnis and Chloe,” offers the splendor befitting an open-air concert. Highlights include Korngold’s “Straussiana”—a fine piece written after World War II by a composer with deep ties to Vienna—and the orchestral version of “Adoration,” an organ piece by 20th-century American composer Florence Price, whose works were also featured at this year’s New Year’s Concert (All of these will be performed by the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time). Welsh-born opera singer Bryn Terfel will appear as a soloist, performing arias from Boito’s Mefistofele and Verdi’s Falstaff, Wagner’s Das Rheingold, and “Tevye’s Song” from Bock’s musical Fiddler on the Roof. Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1990. Principal Conductor of the Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. He has regularly conducted some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In June 2024, he will lead the Vienna Philharmonic on a tour of Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. In April 2026, he will assume the position of the fourth Music Director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Sony Music
