This concert generated significant buzz as it marked Bruce’s triumphant return to his hometown of Asbury Park. Out of respect and gratitude for his hometown, he selected songs with direct ties to Asbury Park. The setlist included four tracks from his debut album *Greetings from Asbury Park* (1973), three from his second album *The Cry of Youth* (1973), six from his third album *Runaway* (1975), and three from his fourth album *The City That Howls in the Dark* (1978)—focusing primarily on his 1970s work while also featuring a well-balanced selection of major hits from the 1980s and albums released in the 2000s and beyond. He also performs rare tracks such as “Thundercrack” (not included on any original album) and “Local Hero” (from *Lucky Town*), as well as covers of “Twist & Shout” and “Jersey Girl.” In the city where Bruce Springsteen’s story began, this “magical night” that encapsulated his long journey is finally being released as an official CD. Bruce Springsteen had this to say about the concert: “I think it ranks in my top five—no, top three—of all the concerts I’ve ever done. It was one of the most beautiful performance experiences I’ve ever had in my life.” The last time Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band performed a paid concert in Asbury Park was before *The Wild Ones*, back when he was writing songs just a stone’s throw away from where he was playing with his bandmates that night. Immediately after the show, Springsteen said this on the radio: “These days, our working lives are limited. Even if we say, ‘We’re going to keep going until the wheels fall off’… the number of years we can actually do that is limited. So, what we’re all conscious of is that we want to give it our all every single time!”
