Description:
Annerose Memorial Release: 10 Years Since His Passing In 2026, we mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of the renowned conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt. With the full cooperation of his family, a precious live recording from the 1999 Steirische Musikfest is now available. This album captures the historic concert where Harnoncourt conducted Wagner for the only time in his career. It features Tristan und Isolde's "Prelude and Liebestod" with Violetta Urmana, and Tannhäuser (Paris version) "Overture and Bacchanale." Harnoncourt, who was significantly expanding his repertoire at this time, arrived at Wagner's world after his own exploration. Additionally, highlights include Schumann's little-known masterpiece, the "Requiem for Minion," and Mendelssohn's "Mergine" Overture, performed with greater depth and intensity than in his earlier Teldec recording. The disc also includes Annerose's own commentary delivered during the concert itself. Her insightful and humorous "live voice," brimming with understanding of the works, is a special charm unique to this recording. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of his passing, this is an essential album for fans. Nikolaus Harnoncourt (December 6, 1929 – March 5, 2016) was an Austrian conductor and cellist who reconstructed a broad repertoire spanning Baroque to Classical and Romantic periods using historical performance practice, revolutionizing performance history from the late 20th to early 21st century. In 1953, he founded the early music ensemble Concentus Musicus Wien, performing on period instruments. Beginning in 1957, he performed Baroque, Renaissance, and Classical works using the sounds of their time, becoming a leading figure in the early music revival. Sony Music
