The album is a deeply personal reflection on Peter Garrett's singular journey, drawing inspiration and sustenance from the natural environment and the sights and sounds of contemporary Australia. Recorded with his band The Alter Egos and produced by Tony Bouchen (Smashing Pumpkins, Montaigne, G-Flip, Tim Finn), the album is the top 3 album on the ARIA charts, 2016's A Version Of Now and is Peter's second solo release. The album was produced by Martin Rozzi (Midnight Oil) on guitar, Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) on piano keyboards, Evan Munnell on drums, and Rowan Lane on bass. Freya Shack Arnot on cello and Ollie Thorpe on pedal steel also participated, and Peter's two daughters, May and Grace, sang on some of the major tracks.The album's first track, the commanding rock track "Permaglow," is a scathing slogan against the computer generation's youth, who "George Orwell was right. We should have waited a little longer," Peter Garrett sings in a scathing slogan to the computer generation of young people "living idly in paradise. Peter says, "We should have waited a little longer. Often, when I take a walk late at night, I see monochromatic lights flashing from apartments and houses. People are alone, perhaps lonely, watching the screen. In "Permaglow," I tried to draw attention to such scenes. There is a great contradiction between the charisma of successful individuals celebrated in the media and the reality that many people face. The people of the city should always take precedence over the heroes of Marvel Comics. Peter Garrett, prominent activist, former politician, and lead singer of Midnight Oil, is arguably one of Australia's most powerful figures. He has long been an advocate for a wide range of national and international issues, including improving life opportunities for indigenous Australians, ending the climate crisis, and AUKUS (the Australia-UK-U.S. Security Cooperation Framework). He has served two terms as President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, as Minister for the Environment, and as Minister for Schools and Education.He is the only Australian politician to receive the Leaders for a Living Planet award from WWF and has been awarded the Order of Australia for services to the music industry and the environment.
