Description:

Pearl of the Italian Baroque - The world of Marcello's wonderful cantatas and instrumental works, including a world premiere recording. The younger brother of Alessandro, a descendant of a noble Venetian family and composer of the famous oboe concerto, Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739) was gifted in music and literature and studied music with Antonio Lotti and Francesco Gasparini. In contrast to his brother, who left only about 50 works, he was an energetic composer with nearly 700 known works, including his masterpiece "Poetic and Musical Inspirations" and about 300 cantatas for solo voice and ensemble. His musical works, which encompass a variety of genres, including operas and instrumental works, were also highly praised by his contemporaries Bach and Telemann, and among his pupils was Baldassare Galuppi. Three of the four cantatas recorded here are world premiere recordings, and are from a magnificent pictorially decorated manuscript score consisting of 24 cantatas for soprano and bass continuo, now in the Schneider-Genevine Collection in Zurich, which was discovered by musicologist Eduardo Danino It was discovered by musicologist Eduardo Danino in 1941, but was thought to be lost until musicologist Nicolas Schneider purchased it at auction a few years ago. The piece "I will not die when I leave" is original, unique, and special, and is not found in any other source in the world. I Hear You, Amor, I Hear You" is a kind of lament (here by the shepherdess Dorinda). And in "To the Happy Meadow," the unhappy Clori laments Nieso's infidelity against the backdrop of a sunny spring meadow. In this cantata, Marcello writes several passages in the treble passages. These unique passages are quite unusual and give the performer a small hint as to what direction the composer wants the passages to take in the realization of the basso continuo. The wonderful "What a sudden whirlwind" for soprano, strings, and basso continuo is preserved in manuscript in the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice. The soprano part, constantly interrupted by the violent strings, evokes the gathering of clouds and the unleashing of winds to shake the raging sea. five "Sinfonias in four voices," probably composed between 1716 and 1726, are dedicated to the enigmatic Mr. Dew (a score in the composer's own hand, presumably in the British Library in London). (The score, which is believed to be the composer's autograph, is kept in the British Library in London). ) The pieces are inserted in this album as an introduction to the cantata. Soprano Nuria Leal, highly acclaimed for her Echo Classics award, has a wonderful voice that conveys a sense of innocent innocence, and she sings these works with great charm, using her versatility and expressiveness to grasp their essence. Nicoletta Palacivescu, a female keyboardist who studied at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Romania, the Schola Cantorum Basel, and the Stuttgart University of Music and Drama, and is currently the resident organist at the Bursel Theodore Church, has devoted herself to reviving buried works. In this album, she reproduces the stylistic beauty of the works based on her meticulous research. Sony Music
