Pianist Eric Reed, known for his work with the Wynton Marsalis Band, teams up with a young pianist/composer to create an ambitious new trio that focuses on the masterpieces created by black composers. Eric Reed, born in 1970, is a Philadelphia pianist best known for his work as pianist for the Winston Marsalis Band in the 1990s, and is one of the most influential and beloved jazzmen of all time. He has recorded nearly 30 albums as a leader and is known for his intelligence, clarity, and unwavering swing. This new trio, with Italian bassist Luca Alemanno and drummer Reggie Quinerly, both of whom are young musicians in their own right, is a new trio. As the title suggests, the focus is on the masterpieces created by blacks in the realm of jazz and blues.In addition to jazz greats such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Horace Silver, and Buster Williams, the album also featured Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise" and Bill Withers' "Lean on Me. The sound of the "blues" was a key element of the American Negro culture. The intention was to show that the "blues" sound is the source of black music in America, and that jazz, gospel, and R&B are descendants of it. This is a work that shows the confidence that it is the "culmination" of his musical life, and is one of his best works.
